Big Bamn - Bio
Born Ken Smith II in Detroit, Michigan, Bamn was raised in the church. Bamn's father Ken Senior played organ and piano since age the age of fifteen, and to this day he is a Pastor who plays. With Bamn's older brother Sean also playing drums, it kept the two boys competing for the chance to play next to one of Detroit's greatest musicians at that time. Today, Bamn is a family man and has been playing drums for over 27 years, with four of those years in Cincinnati, Ohio. Those four years were also the first years Bamn was ever paid to play such music as R&B, Rock, Jazz, Hip Hop, etc. Bamn soon started playing for local groups all over Cincinnati, like Flawless, 513 Band, Natural Progression, The Sly Band, and list goes on. Bamn was soon one of the most sought after drummers in Cincinnati. Bamn wanted to play the drums full time and quit his day job at a local Hospital he had been working at for over 3 years; soon after, Bamn was picked up by Cincinnati’s own Funk Master Bootsy Collins. Bamn was now on the road to being a successful producer/entrepreneur and enjoyed traveling the world doing what he was born to do. Recently, Bamn got the chance to join up with The Kelly Richey Band. With Kelly Richey on guitar and Freekbass on bass guitar, Bamn is thrilled to be joining forces with these two power players and lending his solid, trademark chops to the mix. With a full schedule of Kelly Richey Band shows and constant touring coming up, Bamn is ready to play and ready for the road!

• Barn Owl Blues (Netherlands)
“Kelly Richey is an excellent and exciting guitarist and her husky voice matches her rock songs. After a rocking foot stomping beginning, Kelly shows that she masters ballads and Blues as well. Fans of old-fashioned hard rocking Blues should certainly listen to this album.” - Eric Campfens
• Muzik Reviews
“Kelly Richey is an amazing blues artist with a rock attitude. With Janis Joplin vocals and Jimi Hendrix guitar skills, she makes some great tunes, and Sweet Spirit is full of them.” - Craig Kidd
• Cincinnati City Beat
“…the always-impressive bass playing of Chris Sherman, a.k.a. Freekbass from Freekbot and local Funk group Freekbass, and studio drummer Robby Cosenza (formerly of the D.C.-spawned Indie Folk Rock band These United States) give Richey’s muscular, riff-laden songs a serious groove upon which the ever-soulful musician dazzles with both her six-string and vocal chords.” - Mike Breen
• Blues Bytes
"This incredibly tight set captures Kelly Richey at her best, with her powerful vocals, crisp, concise guitar work, and a powerhouse band in support. If you’re disappointed because it’s over, just start it over again….it’s just as good the second time around."
• Reflections In Blues
"Kelly Richey has nothing to prove. She has demonstrated that she can play traditional blues with passion, power and finesse; now she has shown the world that she can hold her own against any guitar player out there." - Bill Wilson
• Classic Rock B102.7 - Concert review
"The band had the crowd on their feet dancing, clapping and bowing at the incredible performers we were fortunate enough to see." - Crash
• Don & Sheryl's Blues Blog
"This set contains ten original tracks that allow Kelly’s snarling, Led Zep-influenced guitar leads and her husky, gravelly alto to take the center stage. The songs are concisely arranged for a power trip, and, on most tracks, Kelly is joined by Freekbass on bass, and Robby Cosenza on drums."
- Don & Sheryl Crow
• B’man’s Blues Report
“This is the best hard rockin’ blues guitar release that I've heard in a long time.”
• Cincinnati Enquirer
“Richey’s chunky, riff-heavy guitar work and growling vocals combined with Freekbass’ in-your-face bass licks makes for some of the most intense, raw and rugged recordings in Richey’s career.” - Rick Bird
“I've never heard such a wonderful combination of funk, blues and rock; sometimes slinky and laid back, but usually a hard driving mix of musical sound and fury.” - William Taylor
• Buckeye Music Magazine
“Perhaps the best tune on the CD is a Rock and Roll masterpiece called “Risin’ Sun” where the trio stretch the boundaries a bit and prove that the Kelly Richey Band is not just a “Blues” band; this band can ROCK with the best of them...” - Jimmy Cummings
• Guitar Player Magazine
“ On Angels, the Kentucky native layers crunchy riffs, sassy wah lines, and fiery solos over tight, funky rhythm tracks played by elite Memphis studio cats. But it’s Richey’s fast powerful picking hand that sets her apart from typical bluesdrenched rockers.” - Andy Ellis
• Blues Revue Magazine
On previous albums, Richey’s terrific voice stole the spotlight from her sparkling playing. But with Speechless, an inspiring and extraordinarily controlled display of six-string talent, she lets her fingers do the talking. - Hal Horowitz
• Vintage Guitar Magazine
“Guitarist/singer Kelly Richey has been described as “Stevie Ray Vaughan trapped in a woman’s body with Janis Joplin screaming to get out.” That makes a helluva picture, but it’s as close as words come to describing the talent of this native of Lexington, KY....On these nine original cuts, the Strat-wielding guitarist interprets and expands on the great sounds of the masters, but with many original touches." - ECS
• Goldmine Magazine
“Kelly Richey’s first new album in five years (Speechless) is an incendiary blast through her influences, an all-instrumental set that picks up where the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Roy Buchanan, Jeff Beck, Pat Metheny, and Al DiMeola left off (or were once spotted) and tears hell for leather through a series of stylings and storms that render you slack-jawed in amazement.” - Dave Thompson
• Arkansas Night Flying
“...The Kelly Richey Band’s reputation is built on its explosive live performances and seeing is believing...Not many women, or men, can rock the blues with Richey’s intensity and authority.”
• Elmore Magazine
“Kelly Richey is a fiercely gutsy and immensely talented female guitarist based in the Midwest....A purely instrumental album in the rock or blues genres, in my opinion, must try harder to gain and keep the listeners’ attention throughout. Speechless succeeds.” - M.T.H. Weitzman
• Cincinnati, City Beat
“...Imagine a cross between Ruth Brown and Bonnie Raitt and you’ve just begun to get the picture.”
• Top Twenty One
“Kelly Richey is nothing short of an inspirational guitar player... I have never before heard a woman rip it out on a guitar like this. “ - John Shelton Ivany
• LA Weekly
“Such adventurous extrapolations are exactly what’s required if the blues genre is going to have anything new to say in the next century.”
• Minneapolis, Blues On Stage
“...( Kelly Richey ) is one remarkable blues guitar player. There are actually some very interesting similarities between Kelly Richey and Walter Trout -- both in style of playing, fretboard prowess, certain mannerisms and sheer intensity of emotion in their playing.”
• New Music Weekly
“Just got a copy of Kelly Richey and “Sending Me Angels” and we’re certainly impressed. Produced by John Snyder on the Sweet Lucy Record label, this amazing vocalist/guitarist, displays the very best in blues/rock, perfect for our Album Mix format.”
• Album Network
...(Sending Me Angels) “Kelly Richey’s Raw gutsy performance on ‘Nothin’ To Do With Love’ is really accented by her amazing guitar work.”
• Midwest Record
“With chops and agility that just seem to scale new heights every time out, she’s actually more Albert King than Bonnie Raitt and knows full well how to burn the house down.”
• Music City Blues—Nashville
“Gritty, topical, socially-conscious lyrics are the standard on these eleven originals, all hammered home by her blistering fretwork and assertive, “take-noprisoners” vocal delivery.” …” For an insightful look at a brilliant woman of the blues, enjoy “Carry The Light” today!!” - Don Crow
• Modern Guitars
“Though Carry the Light encircles the blues more than enters it, a blues ambiance persists throughout, especially in her guitar playing approach. It blazes a scorching trail throughout most of the album.” - Brian D. Holland
