Guitar Instruction with Kelly Richey

With over three decades of teaching experience under her belt, Kelly Richey is a deeply dedicated and inspirational guitar instructor who has taught well over 1,000 students to date.

Kelly started playing the piano at the age of five and took piano lessons until she was thirteen years old, at which time she switched instruments and began learning how to play the drums. She received her first guitar at the age of fifteen and immediately began to take intensive guitar lessons. Kelly practiced sixteen hours a day until she excelled at the guitar-- by the age of 18 was touring professionally all over the country. Shortly after learning to play the guitar, Kelly became a sought after and well-respected guitar instructor. Throughout the years she has continued to teach privately, hold guitar instruction workshops, and teach adult education guitar instruction classes for Butler Tech Vocational Schools in Hamilton OH. Kelly also is an “Artist on Tour” for the Cincinnati Arts Association, delivering a comprehensive Blues History and American Music program to the local schools. In addition, in 2006 she started Music For Change, a non-profit organization committed to bringing music education into public schools, utilizing a variety of programs offering live performances, lectures, and interactive participation that serve to facilitate learning opportunities for students while keeping the history of American music alive and prospering.

With over 3,500 shows played over the last 30 years Kelly has a solid, comprehensive understanding of the guitar which she passionately passes on to her students. She emphatically believes that learning how to play an instrument helps everyone, young and old alike, to develop creativity, poise, determination and self-confidence. 



Kelly is a dynamic, captivating teacher with a unique teaching style who relates exceptionally well to her students no matter what their skill level or background may be. Her goal is to provide expert instruction tailored to meet individual students’ needs so that he or she can excel to full potential. Beginner to advanced students are all welcome.
