Shane Frye Biography:
Born in Mt. Vernon, OH and raised in Sidney, OH, Shane Frye moved to Columbus, OH in late 1992. In January 1993, Shane began playing with a local psychedelic rock group, "Local Color". Throughout the mid-90's, he drummed for many local groups that included a range of styles and also started his own rock/blues band called Action Jackson and the Biggunz. In the spring of '99, Shane dropped everything and started touring with an original roots/jam band called The Shantee and with them recorded two discs including an EP produced by David Z (Johnny Lang, Prince, Fine Young Cannibals). As that came to a close in 2004, he enlisted friend and songwriter Dave Katz (Ekoostik Hookah) and helped form the eight-piece group, Katz-n-Jammers. Wanting to get back on the road, Shane met Kelly Richey and played from May to December, '05. After a year off, Shane is back with The Kelly Richey Band and looking forward to the future.
Shane's influences would have to include first and foremost, his family, "…we sang in church, and all of the kids took piano lessons at home and were in band or chorus at school. My older brother, Steve, is a drummer and my other brother, Scott, sang opera professionally for years. The chances were good that I would pursue a music career". Drumming influences include John Bonham, Neil Peart, Tony Williams, Stewart Copeland, Levon Helm, Ringo Starr, Terry Bozzio, Chris Layton, "…a list much too large to mention here, but in general, any drummer with great feel and their own voice." Shane plays DW drums and the best Zildjian and Sabian cymbals.
